Kenya has enrolled 21 local companies in a three-week market-linkage programme in Mannheim, Germany, as the country steps up efforts to expand exports and connect Kenyan businesses with international buyers.
The companies were selected from more than 100 applicants and represent key export sectors including tea, coffee, avocado, horticulture, herbs and spices.
Running from September 28th to October 16th, 2026, the programme gives participating businesses access to specialised training, business-to-business meetings and opportunities to build commercial relationships with German companies and buyers.
The initiative is also encouraging Kenyan exporters to do more with their products before selling them abroad, including processing, packaging and branding. This means businesses can sell finished products instead of mainly exporting raw commodities, creating more business and job opportunities locally.
Direct engagement with European buyers could help participating companies find new customers, expand their export markets and increase earnings. It could also create more demand for Kenyan agro-processing, manufacturing and other businesses supplying the export value chain.
The programme gives the 21 companies an opportunity to build long-term international partnerships while strengthening their ability to compete in overseas markets. As more Kenyan businesses move into value addition, a greater share of the value generated from local products can remain within the country.
