Corruption is a major challenge that weakens institutions, wastes public resources and discourages investments. It is one of Kenya’s greatest obstacles to economic growth, good leadership and public trust. 

According to 'Kenya’s Road to Singapore report', fighting corruption alone is not enough to transform Kenya into a prosperous nation. It calls for broader structural reforms including strengthening the rule of law, efficient service delivery, promoting good leadership and accountability, in order to attain sustainable development.

The report draws lessons from the experiences of Singapore, a first world nation that grew so fast because of good governance and support from the citizens. It explains that the success of Singapore resulted from a combination of factors and not anti-corruption measures alone. Such factors include quality education, healthcare, technology, and other important services.

Citizens should also embrace good values like integrity, discipline, honesty and civic responsibility. Eliminating corruption without every player taking part in the development plan for Kenya would have limited impact. 

Fighting corruption should therefore be viewed as just one part of the country’s comprehensive mechanisms for strategic transformation.
