Raila Odinga International Talanta Stadium Nears Completion

Kenya’s sporting landscape is set for a major boost as the 60,000-seater Raila Odinga International Stadium at Talanta Sports City moves closer to completion.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya says the stadium is expected to be ready for use in November 2026, with construction now more than 94 per cent complete.

Located at Jamhuri Grounds along Ngong Road in Nairobi, the modern facility is being developed as one of Kenya’s flagship sporting venues. The stadium is expected to play a central role when Kenya co-hosts the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) alongside Uganda and Tanzania.

With most of the major construction work complete, attention has shifted to finishing works and supporting infrastructure. These include spectator facilities, media areas, security systems, access roads, power connections and transport infrastructure around the complex.

The stadium’s main pitch is also ready, paving the way for the facility to potentially host its first matches towards the end of the year as preparations for AFCON 2027 intensify.

Once operational, the Raila Odinga International Stadium will significantly expand Kenya’s capacity to host major continental and international sporting events.

Beyond AFCON 2027, the 60,000-capacity arena is expected to provide a new home for major football matches and other large-scale events, strengthening Nairobi’s position as an important sporting destination in Africa.

For Kenyan sports fans, November could mark the beginning of an exciting new chapter.
