The expansion of Kenneth Matiba Hospital in Murang’a county by the National Government is ongoing, with the initiative set to upgrade the facility from a 20-bed to a modern 100-bed Level 4 referral hospital. 

The project is being constructed under the direct supervision of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and will provide comprehensive specialized healthcare to communities. It is set to have a trauma center, doctors’ plaza, specialized clinics and expanded inpatient wards.

Completion of this project will advance Universal Health Coverage (UHC), a key pillar of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda which requires modern, accessible and well-equipped health facilities. The hospital will operate round the clock thereby easing pressure on neighbouring referral facilities.

The project demonstrates the government’s commitment towards health infrastructure while also honouring the enduring legacy of Kenneth Matiba whose sacrifices for Kenya’s democracy and visionary public leadership continues to inspire the nation.

This upgrade sets the foundation for healthier families, faster emergency response and a future where every citizen has access to quality healthcare closer to home.
