Kenya is boldly investing in modern sports infrastructure as the country prepares to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. One of the key projects leading this transformation is the modernization of the iconic Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.
Implemented by the Kenya Defence Forces, the upgrade is set to turn Afraha into a world-class sporting facility capable of hosting major matches and supporting elite training. The stadium’s spectator capacity will grow from 8,200 to between 13,000 and 15,000 in the initial phases, with a long-term target of 20,000 seats.
The works include modern pavilions, high-mast floodlights for night matches, an all-weather Tartan athletics track, an improved football pitch, secure parking, and better sanitation facilities.
Beyond AFCON 2027, this project represents a powerful investment in Kenya’s future. It will strengthen Nakuru’s position as a regional sports hub, create opportunities for local talent, boost sports tourism, and support economic growth.
Afraha Stadium is not just being renovated,it is being reimagined as a symbol of national ambition, regional pride, and the bright future of Kenyan sport.
