Development of modern fisheries hub ongoing in Kilifi

The Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs is developing a modern fish landing site in Kilifi Central, Kilifi County, to enhance fish handling, post-harvest processing and market access.

The facility is being developed as a hub featuring high-capacity fish handling area, solar-powered energy system, cold storage machines and a structured market space. It also includes supporting administrative and sanitation equipment to improve fish quality management, efficiency and sustainability. Upon completion, it will improve incomes for the fishing community, strengthen local fisheries supply chain and stimulate economic growth.

The project has also provided a practical training and hands-on experience for interns in construction, engineering and project management while also creating job opportunities for residents.

The State Department for Internal Security and National Administration through effective coordination and maintenance of a secure working environment, has also supported implementation of the project.

Realization of this project will help safeguard fisheries infrastructure and unlock the full potential of Kenya’s coastline.
