Kenya Airways flies over 50 ‘VIP cattle’ to Nigeria in unique Cargo operation.

Kenya Airways has captured public attention after transporting more than 50 cows from Nairobi to Lagos, Nigeria, aboard a specially chartered cargo flight.

The unusual shipment, announced on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, was humorously described by the national carrier as a journey for “VIP cattle” seeking greener pastures. The operation showcased the airline’s growing capacity to handle specialized cargo beyond conventional goods and parcels.

"Moo-ve over, traffic! Our VIP cattle are taking to the skies in search of greener pastures. Excited to have facilitated charter for the transportation of over 50 cows from Nairobi to Lagos through our Kenya Airways Cargo charter services," the Airline said in a statement shared through its official communication channel.

Through the Kenya Airways Cargo division, the airline offers KQ Live, a specialized service designed to transport animals safely and comfortably across international destinations.

"A big thank you to our client for trusting us with their cargo, and to our #KQCargo team and all stakeholders who worked together to make this operation a success," the statement read.

The service incorporates professional animal handling, appropriate transportation facilities and veterinary documentation to safeguard livestock throughout their journey.

The shipment also highlights Kenya's potential in livestock exports and the increasing importance of air freight in facilitating agricultural trade between African countries.

With Nigeria representing one of Africa's largest consumer markets, such operations demonstrate opportunities for Kenyan livestock suppliers to expand their regional reach.

Beyond the excitement surrounding the flying cattle, the operation reinforces Kenya Airways' role in connecting African economies, supporting cross-border trade and providing innovative logistics solutions.

The remarkable journey illustrates how aviation can open new opportunities for agriculture across the continent.
