Kenya–US Health Deal Set to Revolutionize Our Healthcare System

Kenya’s dream of affordable, accessible healthcare for all just took a massive leap forward, thanks to a new Health Cooperation Framework signed between Kenya and the United States in Washington, D.C.

The United States will invest $1.6 billion, which is over KSh 250 billion, in Kenya’s health sector over the next five years, focusing on key areas that directly improve citizens’ access to care.

Funds will be channelled directly through Kenyan government institutions, not third parties, ensuring every shilling supports public hospitals, medical equipment, essential drugs, and health insurance expansion.

The agreement was signed by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, under the leadership of President William Ruto and President Donald J. Trump.

This deal builds on a 25-year Kenya–US health partnership, already worth over $7 billion, and now deepens it through trust, transparency, and mutual accountability.

Expect better-equipped hospitals, faster supply of medicines, a stronger health workforce, and more Kenyans covered by health insurance.
