Here’s What You Need to Know About the KSh170B Mau Summit Dual Carriageway

After the grand launch of the Nairobi–Nakuru–Mau Summit dual carriageway, new details have emerged on how this mega project will be funded, phased, and delivered. It’s a masterclass in strategic planning and partnership that will deliver timely and game-changing results.

The National Social Security Fund will invest Sh12 billion, covering 45% of the equity portion. Two Chinese firms will partner on the project, while loans from Chinese banks will cover the rest.

The road will be split into two phases totaling 233 kilometers of modern dual carriageway, part of President Ruto’s promise to deliver safer, faster, and more efficient travel.

  • Phase 1 (Sh111B): 139km from Nairobi to Maai Mahiu, built by China Road and Bridge Corporation with NSSF support.
  • Phase 2 (Sh87B): 94km from Gilgil to Mau Summit, built by Shandong Hi-Speed Road and Bridge International.

To prevent funding delays and ensure construction begins immediately, the government split the project between two firms.

The road will be tolled for 28 years, allowing investors to recover costs and ensure sustainability. Kenya’s road to progress is no longer just talk; it’s concrete, tarmac, and hard work in motion.
